Frohnmayer Victorious at PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship
Kent, Wash. (October 5, 2010) – Terri Frohnmayer of Salem, Ore. ran away with a 9 shot victory at the 25th PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Frohnmayer bested the 91 player field who were treated to a sunny final day of golf at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash.
Frohnmayer, last year’s PNGA Senior Women’s Am co-runner-up, was the class of the field again today as she put together a superb round of even par 72 for a 2-day total of 2-over par 146. She would make 3 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine to go out at 1-under par 35 and came in with 2 birdies, 1 bogey, and 1 double bogey for a 1-over par 37.
Frohnmayer was the 1974 PNGA Women’s Amateur Champion at Overlake Golf and Country Club in Medina, Wash. and when asked about her victory today she said that she doesn’t play in many tournaments any more but wanted to come up and play in this one to try and win another PNGA Championship.
Runner-up was 2006 champion, Anne Carr of Renton, Wash. who shot a 4-over par 76 for a 2-day total of 11-over par 155. In a 5-way tie for third place at 12-over par 156 were; Yasue Alkins of Lacey, Wash., 2005 champion, Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C., 2000 champion, Ann Swanson of Redmond, Wash., Sue Ursino of Sammamish, Wash., and Rachel Whittington of Lake Oswego, Ore.
This year marks the event’s Silver Anniversary which featured a special banquet ceremony honoring the champions of the past 25 years.
The PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship is open to female senior amateur golfers who are members in good standing of a PNGA member club, have reached their 50th birthday by October 4, 2010 and carry a 27.1 Handicap Index or lower. The field will be broken into five equal divisions based on age.
