Rough conditions at Arrowhead Golf Club

The championships were to be held at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.

After the first round was washed out, there had been hope to continue the championships on the second day, but the rain had been too heavy and the course was deemed unplayable.

This year’s field had the prospect of being one of the most competitive in recent history with several past champions returning, including two-time champion Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. (2005, ’11), 2010 champion Terri Frohnmayer of Salem, Ore., and 2004 champion Rachel Whittington of Lake Oswego, Ore. Frohnmayer won the 2011 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship and was named the 2011 PNGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year, and earlier this year Murdoch was inducted into both the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame. Murdoch was named the 2012 PNGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year.

Other players in the field included Yasue Alkins of DuPont, Wash., who won the 2012 WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year after winning the 2012 Washington State Senior Women’s Amateur.

The Super Senior field was headlined by the 2011 champion, Carole Holm of Renton, Wash. and Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Famer and 2000 Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur champion Ann Swanson of Bellevue, Wash. The perpetual trophy for this championship is named after Margaret Todd of Victoria, B.C., who was inducted into the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
