Larson and Hanson go low to lead PNGA Men’s Senior Team; Gallacher and Lindbjerg lead Super Seniors
Two-time champions Craig Larson of Tacoma, Wash. and Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash. fired an opening round 10-under 62 to lead the 36th Pacific Northwest Men’s Senior Team Championship; while defending champions John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C. and Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. shot an opening round 7-under 65 to lead the 3rd Men’s Super Championship.
Both championships were are being held concurrently at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton Wash, and are being conducted by the PNGA. Today’s opening rounds were played on the Gold Mountain Cascade Course.
Looking for their third straight title, Larson and Hanson caught fire in the Four-Ball stroke play (Best-Ball) format going 4-under on their first nine and closing with a 6-under 30 on the back.
Hanson is a seven-time PNGA champion.
In second place, four shots back is the duo of Chris Degrazia of Lynwood, Wash. and Mike Hickock of Moses Lake, Wash.
In the Men’s Super Senior Team Championship, Gallacher and Lindbjerg, playing in the Four-Ball stroke play (Best-Ball) format, combined for 3-under 33 on the front nine while firing a 4-under 32 on the back to begin their title defense.
The duo had teamed together to win the Men’s Senior Team title in 2014. Gallacher won the 2017 PNGA Super Senior Men’s Amateur.
Four shots back and in a tie for second place are the teams of Tom Kubisa and Ben Manchion of Bremerton, Wash. and Larry Daniels of Seattle, Wash. and Michael Jonson of Sammamish, Wash.
Both championships consist of two-person teams, and will be contested over 54 holes. The first and third round of each championship will be Four-Ball stroke play, while the second round for each championship will be in the Chapman format. Entrants in the Senior championships must be 50 years of age or older prior to start of play in the first round, and 65 years of age for the Super Senior championships.
