Little and McGarvey Grab Lead After Second Round at PNGA Women’s Senior Team; O’Donnell and Dick Lead in Super Senior

Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. and Kathryn McGarvey of North Vancouver, B.C. shot a solid 73 to take the lead after round two of the 34th Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship, being held at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

In the Super Senior Championship, Mary O’Donnell of Bellevue, Wash. and Carol Dick of Lakewood, Wash. also came from behind to leapfrog Mary Ryan and Sun Douthit to lead by two shots going into the final round.

Little and McGarvey started the second round two shots behind first round leaders Ginny Burkey of Eugene, Ore. and Lisa Smego of Oro Valley, Ariz., but in the second round, which was competed in the Chapman format, Little and McGarvey put together a steady round of 1-over 73 on Gold Mountain’s Olympic course, while Burkey and Smego stumbled uncharacteristically, combining for a 6-over par 78, and now sit four shots behind Little and McGarvey. The duo of Burkey and Smego is looking for a three-peat, having won this championship the past two years.

The championship’s third round will be conducted in the Four-Ball format, and will be held on Gold Mountain’s Olympic course.

The Pacific Northwest Men’s and Women’s Senior Team Championships are being held this week at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. The two championships are being held consecutively on Gold Mountain’s Cascade and Olympic courses, with the Women’s being held September 19-21 and the Men’s being held September 21-23.

Both championships consist of two-person teams, and each championship has a Super Senior division, all of which will be contested over 54 holes. The first and third round of each championship will be Four-Ball stroke play, while the second round for each championship will be in the Chapman format. Entrants must be 50 years of age or older prior to start of play in the first round.

The championships are being conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).
