Black Butte Ranch – an ideal fall getaway

Those who know Black Butte Ranch, know fall is a time to cherish. Sure, those famously sunny Central Oregon days get just a bit shorter, but the skies remain just as blue. The Cascade Peaks that are ever-present at Black Butte Ranch suddenly glow white in the distance. The aspens that frame Black Butte Ranch’s two championship golf courses are awash in the yellows, oranges, and reds of fall.

The kids may be back in school, but in Central Oregon fall is still a prime time. A time to truly enjoy all that Central Oregon has to offer, but at just a bit slower, quieter pace. For Central Oregonians, the season is an opportunity for a fall getaway that comes free of the hassles of air travel.

While the weather grows more mild and the fall colors emerge, Black Butte Ranch’s unique Central Oregon setting is still best enjoyed sharing a round of golf, a horseback ride, a bike ride, or by simply taking in the views of the Cascade Mountain Range.

Black Butte Ranch’s 36 holes of golf remain open and in peak condition well into October. The 7,002-yard Big Meadow course, a Robert Muir Graves gem, emphasizes playability and fun while bringing to life the breathtaking surroundings.

The John Fought redesign of 7,007-yard Glaze Meadow harkens back to the golden era of golf design. The redesign has proven worthy enough to challenge elite Pacific Northwest competitors. But make no mistake, Fought’s redesign of Glaze Meadow is beloved by golfers of all skill levels.

Fought returned to Black Butte Ranch in 2020 to design Little Meadow — Black Butte Ranch’s 12-hole putting course that can be configured into 18 shorter holes. Since its opening, the putting course set near Big Meadow has been a hit with families and friends — no matter the skill level, no matter the age.

What makes golf truly special at Black Butte Ranch, though, is how rare it is for such high-level resort golf to be so accessible and affordable, even in summer. In fall, that only becomes more true.

Explore Black Butte Ranch by horseback, led by the professional wranglers from Black Butte Stables. Miles of pathways are perfect for a morning run or an afternoon bike ride. Get revitalized with a massage, facial, body treatment and more at the Spa at Black Butte Ranch. Then come together again for a bite at the Lakeside Bistro or at Robert’s.

A number of Black Butte Ranch lodging specials will make the trip affordable, even in the summer. Those specials include the Stay & Play Package, which includes two rounds of golf and discounted lodging. Or enjoy a fourth night free when you stay three or more nights in one of Black Butte Ranch’s full-service vacation rentals.

You deserve a fall getaway, even if that getaway is close to home. And no place is better for that than Black Butte Ranch.
