Dan Hixson’s Bar Run now booking Preview Play

Oregon native Dan Hixson is building his latest golf course in Roseburg, and golfers can get a glimpse of Bar Run when nine holes open for preview play on July 9, 2021.

With construction continuing on the course and accompanying RV resort, Bar Run’s preview play will offer a somewhat industrial, behind-the-scenes experience reflecting the day-to-day vibe of Umpqua Sand & Gravel’s mining and orchard operations that serve as the backdrop to Hixson’s latest design.

Bar Run’s preview play begins July 9 and is currently scheduled to run through September 30, 2021. The golf course will be open five days a week (closed Wednesdays and Thursdays), and all-day passes can be reserved by signing up through the Interest List at

Known throughout the Pacific Northwest for his work at Wine Valley, Bandon Crossings and Silvies Valley Ranch, Hixson’s latest very walkable playground winds through waterways carved by decades of sand-and-gravel mining along the South Umpqua River.

“The land very much dictates the design at Bar Run,” Hixson says. “It’s a reclamation project for the mining operation, and that gave me a lot of flexibility to design memorable, challenging holes with a surprising amount of width at the same time. When you have this landscape – no homes, a mix of large ponds, beautiful trees, the riverside setting along holes 10, 11 and 8 – and ownership like the Guido family who want to build a fun experience both on and off the golf course, it really fires up your creativity.”

And that creativity is already garnering strong reviews, including this first impression from Garrett Morrison of “Lots of cool stuff [on Dan Hixson’s Bar Run]. I enjoyed the sharp-edged, unpredictable contouring, which takes its inspiration from the surrounding peaks as well as the site’s industrial past.”

While nine holes will open July 9, golfers can expect to get a feel for the entire course with a mix from the front and back nines making up the preview play routing. The complete 18-hole golf course is on track to open in the summer of 2022.

And with its convenient location just 10 minutes off the Interstate 5 corridor (and just two exits north of one of the main routes to Bandon), Bar Run will work to attract travelers with more than just the golf course. Future plans include an RV resort (with tiny-house lodging for those without a recreational vehicle), clubhouse with restaurant and bar, walking trails overlooking the river, and a complete golf practice facility.
