O’Donnell hangs on to slim lead at PNGA Senior Am; Lodge rockets to top at Super Senior

Pat O’Donnell of Happy Valley, Ore. shot a 1-over-par 73 in today’s second round to hold on to a slim 1-shot lead at the 55th Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur; while Paul Lodge of Caldwell, Idaho shot the round of the day, a 5-under-par 67, to vault into the lead at the 10th Pacific Northwest Super Senior Men’s Amateur.

O’Donnell, the 2016 PNGA Senior Men’s Player of the Year, began the day with a 1-shot lead, and his second-round 73 is good enough to hold the lead going into tomorrow’s final round. Sitting just one shot back of O’Donnell is Greg Sanders of Anchorage, Larry Watts of Springfield, Ore. and Norm Bradley of Kelowna, B.C., which is exactly where they were after round one.

Lurking just three shots back of O’Donnell is defending champion Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash. Brandes is trying for his fourth win in a row, and sixth overall.

Lodge began the day in fifth place, tied with two other players four shots behind first-round co-leaders Scott Masingill of Payette, Idaho and Tom Phillips of Scottsdale, Ariz. But Lodge poured in six birdies today against one bogey to find himself alone at the top going into tomorrow’s final round. Gary Vanier of Tetonia, Idaho had an impressive 3-under 69 in today’s round, and is just one shot back of Lodge. Masingill is also just one shot behind Lodge, while Phillips is three behind.

The final round of the three-day 54-hole stroke-play competitions will be held tomorrow, June 6.
