8 GOLF IDAHO | MAY 2019 THE IDAHO JUNIOR GOLF FOUNDATION HOSTED THEIR ANNUAL AUCTION April 12 at JUMP in downtown Boise, and had a record-breaking amount of donations, raising over $100,000. Thanks to the generosity of donors, IJGF is able to upgrade trophies by acknowledging third place winners, lowering membership fees by $10, and providing all tour participants with a custom bag tag. Donations also help juniors who are on the traveling teams by covering expenses, and will be able to keep the Team Idaho golf bags, as well as have uniforms provided to them. Outside of the players, there will now be an assistant coordinator to work alongside the district coordinator at the tournaments. This year, the foundation hopes to expand the reach of assisting families to receive grants which will allow juniors to play in every event throughout the season. The IJGF is willing to help any family who is not able to cover the costs of events for their children to play in. Donations also contribute to the Cody Hayes Scholarship, which has grown immensely over the years. What started as small amounts has grown into thousands of dollars towards junior golfers going to college, and has been able to change the lives of Idaho Juniors and assist their families. The Idaho Junior Golf Foundation is excited to continue to grow the game of golf, and is looking forward to a great 2019 season. The Idaho Junior Golf Foundation (IJGF) was founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization to solicit tax- deductible donations and grants to be used to promote and support junior golf throughout Idaho. Now, the purpose of the IJGF is to serve Idaho junior golf by maintaining, supplementing, and augmenting charitable and educational programs. The IJGF has partnered with Idaho’s only statewide junior golf program, the Idaho Golf Association, to expand the knowledge of golf to juniors as a competitive golf league. With the financial support of the IJGF, the IGA annually serves over 500 children through its various programs. This permits the program staff the capability to coordinate championship-caliber events and activities while keeping the cost down for the participants. It is the primary objective of the IJGF to introduce golf to all youth, regardless of their financial and social challenges and to promote golf as a lifetime sport. In addition to networking with the IGA, the IJGF provides annual scholarships and need-based assistance for youth to participate in regional, national and collegiate golf programs. Visit IJGF.org or email idjrgolffoundation@gmail.com for information. Junior golfers helped attendees bid on the cakes during the fundraiser. Left to right are Ben Bryson, IJGF vice president who helped coordinate the fundraiser; Joe Panzeri, IJGF president, who also coordinated the fundraiser; Joe Malay, founder of the IJGF and the night’s emcee; and Doug Hayes, father of Cody Hayes for whom the scholarship is named after.
