b'At PlayintheCloudsBY CRAI S. BOWER ITRAVELED TO JUPITER HILLS Golf Club every spring for 15 years, excited to join my then in-laws in golf rounds on the local 36 holes and trips to Medalist in Hobe Sound. However, though I certainly appreciated these Top 100 private clubs, I would trade South Florida play for a round in the Pacific Northwest woods any time. Same for the Arizona desert and California coast. My playing companions may think Im crazy to favor Gold Mountain over Medalist, the former a public course favored by Bremertonians, the latter played daily by locals named Rickie, JT, and Tiger. But Id rather tiptoe among the Douglas firs than step into crushed shell sand among the stars. The 199-yard par-3 fourth hole, known as the Devils Cauldron, at Banff Springs, is one of the worlds most scenic holes.26PACIFIC NORTHWEST GOLFER| SEPT 2022'
