Recap: Round One at PNGA Senior & Super Senior Women’s Amateur

The first round of the Pacific Northwest Senior and Super Senior Women’s Amateur Championship began today at Everett Golf and Country Club in Everett, Wash.

Conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA), and held concurrently, the 36-hole stroke-play championships conclude tomorrow, October 6, 2015.

Play began on the par-72 layout with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

Anita Wicks of Roseburg, Ore., and Karen Brannon of Redmond, Wash. lead the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship after the first round with scores of four-over-par 76.

Wicks carded two birdies on the front side after beginning on the hole 13. Brannon, who began on hole 3 also made two birdies on her way to a first-round share of the lead.

Tied for third place are Rachel Strauss of Seattle, Wash. and Kim Titus of Anacortes, Wash. Both players are just one stroke off of the lead after opening round scores of five-over-par 77.

A four-way tie for fifth place at six-over-par 78 includes five-time champion Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C., Leilani Norman of Eugene, Wash., who just recently competed in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, Lynda Palahniuk of Kelowna, B.C., and Grace Wei of Sammamish, Wash.

In the Super Senior Amateur Championship, Karen Madison of East Wenatchee, Wash., leads by one after the first round with a five-over-par 77.

Sharon Drivstuen of Mukilteo, Wash. is just one behind Madison at six-over-par 78. In third place is Mary Ryan of Renton, Wash. Ryan is six-strokes off of the lead set by Madison at 11-over-par 83, and in fourth place is defending Super Senior champion Sue Hubbard of Kent, Wash. at 12-over-par 84.

Tomorrow’s second and final round also begins with a 9:00 a.m. with shotgun start at Everett Golf and Country Club.
