Ward, Daniels Take Slim Lead into Final Round of Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Round Two of the 30th Annual Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship commenced today at Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls, Ore. The three-day event will run from Tuesday, September 9th to Thursday, September 11th, 2014 on the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course.

Tyler Daniels of Walla Walla, Wash. and Jeff Ward of Bend, Ore. share the 36-hole lead at four under par heading into Thursday’s Final Round. Daniels posted a Second-Round one-under-par 71 playing in the final group, while Ward came in ahead of him with a two-under-par 70.

Daniels recorded 13 pars on the day, with birdies on Nos. 8, 9, and 17. A bogey on No. 18 kept him from obtaining an outright-lead heading into the Final Round.

Ward only recorded ten pars, along with three bogeys and five birdies. He made four of those birdies between Nos. 8 and 13.

Alex Stamey of Mill Creek, Wash. fired an impressive four-under-par 68 to place him at three under par for the Championship, one stroke off of the lead. Joining Stamey at three under par is Bjorn Bjorke of Port Orchard, Wash.

John Baranco of Boise, Idaho, and Charlie Rice of Bend, Ore. sit at two under par for the Championship, while Stephen Hartnett of Boise, Idaho, Stephen Lee of Everett, Wash., Brandon Lorain of Woodburn, Ore., Michael Kloenne of West Linn, Ore., and Bill Winter of Portland, Ore. are at even par through the first two rounds.

The low round of the day belongs Bill Winter, who fired off a five-under-par 67 to get himself back into the mix for Thursday’s Final Round.

Today, September 10th marked Arnold Palmer’s 85th birthday.

Oregon’s only Arnold Palmer design is a par 36-36-72, and is being played at 7,052 yards.

The Championship is being conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.
