Fairwood announced as host of 2026 PNGA Senior and Super Senior Women’s Championships
Fairwood Golf & Country Club in Renton, Wash. will host the 37th Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s and 15th Super Senior Women’s Amateur championships concurrently from Sept. 8-10, 2026.
Fairwood isn’t a stranger to competitive golf. It hosted the third ever PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur in 1988, 23 years ahead of the inception of the Super Senior Women’s Amateur in 2011. In PNGA competition, Fairwood has also been the site of both the Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur (2003, 2017), as well as the Junior Boys’ (1992) and Girls’ (2009) championships. For WA Golf, it’s been the venue of the Men’s (1971) and Women’s (2021) championships.
“Fairwood is honored to once again host a prestigious PNGA championship with the Senior Women’s Amateur,” said Head PGA Professional Sam Smith. “Our membership has long supported amateur golf in the Northwest and takes tremendous pride in welcoming competitors from across the region.”
Consistent with much of the terrain of Western Washington, Fairwood is largely tree-lined. The design is credited to Bill Teufel, a renowned West Coast architect whose portfolio also includes Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, Colockum Ridge Golf Course and others across Washington.
Fairwood opened in 1967 and remains under meticulous care, with its smooth, fast greens indicative of that. It can stretch to over 6,300 yards, with a unique 18-hole challenge that requires an assortment of golf shot know-how. The layout plays to a par of 71.
“Our course is a true test of every aspect of a player’s skill,” said Smith. “With narrow, tree‑lined fairways and fast, undulating greens, you cannot let your guard down for a moment. Any champion crowned at Fairwood has proven they have a complete game.”
Heading into the 2026 PNGA Senior and Super Senior Women’s championships, Shelly Stouffer and Penny Gibbons enter as defending champions, respectively. Other senior champions include Rosie Cook, Leslie Folsom, Jackie Little, and Anita Wicks. Karen Madison, Marcia Fisher and Holly Horwood are among other super senior winners.
Stouffer, Edwards-Powell and Little are PNGA Hall-of-Famers, as are other former champions Alison Murdoch, Connie Guthrie, and Edean Ihlanfeldt, among others.
The championships are two of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
