McKay Wins 8th PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur

Molalla, Ore. (July 10, 2009) – In the PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, Loree McKay of Portland, Ore. outlasted Charisse Spada also of Portland, Ore. with a win on the 38th hole.

Both being terrific competitors and great friends, the 36-hole match saw four lead changes and neither competitor was ever more than 1-up. McKay who advanced through the Quarterfinals yesterday in 18 holes and the Semifinals in 25 holes continued her marathon of match play. Heading into the 36th hole 1-down, McKay made a solid bogey on the finishing par-5 to force extra holes. Both players made par on the par-5 first hole and then McKay hit a beautiful iron shot into the 138-yard 2nd hole while Spada pushed her shot to the right and bounced into a greenside bunker. A two putt par was enough to claim the hole and the Mid-Amateur title for McKay.
