The 2014 Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship opened today at Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte, Oregon. The 54-hole stroke-play championships run through Thursday, June 5th
In the Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale, Calif. posted a first-round score of 69. Three-under-par and two strokes ahead of defending champion Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash.
Carey Watson of Sunriver, Oregon heads to round-two three-shots back in third place alone after an opening round 72. Dave Hunter of Federal Way, Wash. stands in fourth alone, four shots behind Knoll, while four other players posted scores of 74.
In the Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Chris Maletis of Portland, Oregon is out to an early three-stroke lead after firing a 5-under-par 67. Maletis is a three-time champion of the Senior Men’s Amateur Championship and playing for the first time in the Super Senior division.
Defending Champion in the Super Senior division Shelton Washburn (Port Ludlow, Wash.) is five strokes off the lead after an even-par opening round.
Gay Davis of Portland, Oregon posted 70, while Stein Swenson of nearby Bend, Oregon shot 71.
