Berry and MacGregor Win Men’s Senior Team Championship

Bremerton, Wash. (September 22, 2011) – Steve Berry of Vancouver, B.C. and Lance MacGregor of Delta, B.C. shot a best-ball score of 4-under par 68 in the rain-soaked final round to win the 29th Annual Pacific Northwest Men’s Senior Team Championship conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

Berry and MacGregor came into the final round with a two-shot lead but would quickly find themselves tied with playing competitors Larry Gilhuly and Karl Smith, both of Gig Harbor, Wash., after a bogey-birdie swap on the par 4, 4th hole.  Berry and MacGregor would regroup and close the door on the rest of the field making birdies on holes 6, 9, 11, 14, and 16 to shoot a three day total of 14-under par, 201.

In an awards ceremony presentation, Berry and MacGregor acknowledged how much fun it was to compete with different teams in this unique style of championship.

Finishing in a tie for 2nd place at 12-under par, 203 were Gilhuly and Smith and the team of and Bernie Bolokoski of White Rock, B.C. and Earl Macpherson of Surrey, B.C.

Dave Sloan of Vancouver, Wash. and Clay Riding of Issaquah, Wash. shot a three day total of 24-under par, 191 to claim overall net honors for the championship.

The final round was scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on the Olympic Course, but due to heavy rains in the early morning a 30 minute delay was needed to prepare the course.  A light rain stayed constant for the players throughout the day with a bit of sunshine breaking through as the round completed.

The championship was open to amateur golfers who are members in good standing of a PNGA member club and who have reached their 50th birthday as of September 20, 2011. This year’s competition consisted of 60 teams who competed for top honors in both gross and net formats.

This year marks the 6th year in row Gold Mountain Golf Club has hosted the championship.  In July, the prestigious venue played host to the USGA Junior Amateur Championship.
