Burkey and McKay Capture 4th Consecutive Women’s Senior Team Championship
Bremerton, Wash. (September 21, 2011) – Three-time defending champions, Ginny Burkey of Fircrest, Wash. and Loree McKay of Portland, Ore. made it four consecutive victories as they fired a final round 4-under par 67 to win the 29th Annual Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
The pair had a flawless day in the final round four-ball format with four birdes, two made by each player, to go along with their 14 pars. Their three round total of 1-under par 214 overall left them as the only team under par for the championship. With their win, Burkey and McKay became the first four-time champions in history of the Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship.
Finishing in a tie for second six strokes behind at 5-over par 220 were Phyllis Laschuk of Vancouver, B.C. and Kathryn McGarvey of North Vancouver, B.C. and Rachel Whittington of Lake Oswego, Ore. and her partner Nancy Eglin of Yakima, Wash.
The championship is open to amateur golfers who are female members in good standing of a PNGA member club and who have reached their 50th birthday as of September 19, 2011. This year’s competition consisted of 36 teams competing for top honors in both gross and net formats.
This year marks the 6th year in row Gold Mountain Golf Club has hosted the championship. In July, the prestigious venue played host to the USGA Junior Amateur Championship.
