Burkey and McKay Three-peat Champions at PNGA Women’s Senior Team
Bremerton, Wash. (September 22, 2010) – Ginny Burkey of Fircrest, Wash. and Loree McKay of Portland, Ore., shot a final round 1-under par 70 to capture their third consecutive title at the PNGA Women’s Senior Team Amateur Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
Playing Four-Ball stroke play today, Burkey and McKay began the day with a 3-shot lead and didn’t give anything back making two birdies and one bogey to go along with the rest pars to give them a 3-shot win at 2-under par 213 overall. Having won this championship in 2008 and 2009 as well, the victory this week puts them in the company of Pat Krall of Allyn, Wash. and Patti Schillinger of Belfair, Wash. as the only two three-peat champion teams in the PNGA Women’s Senior Team history.
Finishing in 2nd place were 2007 champions Rachel Whittington of Lake Oswego, Ore. and Nancy Eglin of Yakima, Wash. who shot a final round 1-under par 70 to finish with a three round total of 1-over par 216. The overall net championship was won by Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam, Wash. and Kristy Whitcher of Belfair, Wash. who shot 15-under par 200.
The PNGA Women’s Senior Team is open to amateur golfers who are female members in good standing of a PNGA member club and who have reached their 50th birthday as of September 20, 2010. This year’s competition consisted of 42 teams competing for top honors in both gross and net formats.
