Troy Andrew caddies for brother, Tyler, at PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur

When it comes to caddying, the person who fills that role is often of a tremendous familial or friendly relationship to the player, a true partnership, to ensure sound and reassuring on-course advice.
Most days of the year Troy Andrew primarily handles the responsibilities entailed within his role as executive director of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.
But at the 2025 PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur, held last month at Apple Tree Resort in Yakima, Wash., Troy made time to put on a bib and add “caddie” to his list of job description, when he shouldered the bag for his brother Tyler, who was competing in the field.
The two made the most of the experience navigating Apple Tree’s orchard-lined fairways. While both Andrew brothers play golf, Troy hadn’t caddied for Tyler since both of their junior days. With Troy working in Tacoma and Tyler in Boise, Idaho, the two find themselves slightly distanced these days.
The championship site in eastern Washington offered them the chance to join forces somewhat in the middle, and “spend meaningful time together” as Troy described, which typically has been hard to come by.
“Getting the chance to caddie for my older brother at the PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur was really special,” Troy said, following the week. “I knew my role was to carry the bag and basically stay out of the way.”
Tyler’s playing career has collegiate pedigree, as he formerly played for Boise State University in the 1990s, and continues to dabble in competition today in support of the Idaho Golf Association. He previously had played the PNGA Mid-Am in 2018, when the championship was held at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise.
Given the level of talent Tyler maintains, Troy was happy to be his closest spectator handling his bag.
“It was a lot of fun, especially since he was the one hitting the shots, not me.”
