Final Round At PNGA Senior Team Washed Out – Gilhuly And McNelis Win In Playoff
Bremerton, Wash. (September 23, 2010) – The final round of the 28th Annual PNGA Men’s Senior Team Amateur Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club was canceled today due to heavy rains which created unplayable conditions. However, hole 18 was prepared for a one-hole playoff to crown the overall gross champions. John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C. and Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. shot the low round yesterday with a 6-under par 66 in the Chapman Format setting themselves up for a playoff with Larry Gilhuly and Jim McNelis, both of Gig Harbor, Wash. at 13-under par 130.
The two teams traded pars on the first two holes of the playoff each team burning the edge of the cup on their respective birdie attempts. Finally, Gilhuly stuffed his approach shot on the third playoff hole to within a couple of feet which he tapped in for birdie and the championship.
The championship is open to amateur golfers who are male members in good standing of a PNGA member club and who have reached their 50th birthday as of September 21, 2010. This year’s competition will consist of 64 teams competing for top honors in both gross and net formats.
