Goin’ Low in First Round of Men’s Senior Team
There were a lot of red numbers on the scoreboard after the first round of the 31st Pacific Northwest Men’s Senior Team Championship. Under perfect weather and course conditions, the Woodlands Course at Sunriver Resort was no match for some of the region’s best senior amateur players, as the two teams of Lyndon Blackwell and Dan Heater, both of nearby Bend, Ore., and Jim McNelis and Karl Smith, both of Gig Harbor, Wash., both blistered the course in the Four-Ball format with 8-under par 64s to sit at the top, tied for the lead.
In all, 11 teams broke par on the day.
Tomorrow the field will take on the resort’s Meadows Course, playing the day in a Chapman format.
