GRAY AND WANDERSCHEID SET TO FACE OFF IN 58TH PNGA JUNIOR GIRLS’ AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Good friends Gray and Wanderscheid set for finals

The Final Match is set for the 58th Pacific Northwest Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship. #8 seed Kendall Gray of Federal Way, Wash. and #3 seed, Bree Wanderscheid of Goldendale, Wash., will play Thursday morning for the title at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls, Idaho.

Gray advanced through the Quarterfinals this morning by defeating stroke play qualifying medalist, Aleana Groenhout of Redmond, Wash., 5&3. Gray then caught fire against Annie S. Lee of Surrey, B.C. in the afternoon Semifinals. In the match she would make four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front nine to take a commanding 5-up lead at the turn. Gray would then use a steady string of pars and consistent play to close out the match 5&3 and advance to the finals.

Wanderscheid’s path to the Finals started this morning in her Quarterfinal match by beating Amy Hasenoehrl of Lewiston, Idaho 5&4. The match of the day though came in her Semifinal Match against #2 seed, Kathy Lim of Langley, B.C. 18 regulation holes were not enough as the two players went back and forth all afternoon with Lim birdying the 18th hole to extend the match to extra holes.

The two would trade pars over the first three extra holes until Wanderscheid stuck it close on the 140 yard par-3 4th hole. Wanderscheid would make the birdie putt and close out the match in 22 holes.

The Final Match will commence tomorrow morning at 7:30am from the #1 tee followed by the remaining flight championship matches.
