No. 1 seed falls; Quarterfinal matches set at PNGA Men’s Amateur
Bremerton, Wash. – the quarterfinal matches are set at the 120th PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship, hosted this week at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
Matches in the rounds of 32 and 16 were held today as the region’s best players continue to battle it out under the hot summer sun.

No. 1 seed Sebastian Moss of Pearland, Tex. was defeated in this morning’s round of 32 match by Dalton Dean of Lynnwood, Wash. After the two players tied the first two holes, Dean took control and never gave up the lead, eventually closing out the medalist on the 15th hole with a 4&3 win.
After winning in the morning, Dean faced Peter Jung of Honolulu, Hawaii in the round of 16. Dean was down the majority of the closely contested match, before he won the 17th hole to tie it up. The two players pushed with a birdie on the 18th hole and Jung made second straight birdie on the first playoff hole to seal the win.
In a battle of the Palouse, Jung will face off against Colt Sherrell of Maple Valley, Wash. in tomorrow’s first quarterfinal match. Jung is a rising sophomore on the Washington State University men’s golf team and Sherrell is a rising senior on the University of Idaho men’s golf team.
In quarterfinal match number two, Colby Watkins of Maple Valley, Wash. will face Christian Yanagi of Pullman, Wash. Watkins is a rising junior on the Ottawa University (Ariz.) men’s golf team. Yanagi is a rising senior on the Washington State University men’s golf team.
Preston Bebich of Gig Harbor, Wash. will face Johnny Carey of Seattle, Wash. in quarterfinal match number three. Bebich is a rising junior on the Washington State University men’s golf team, making him the third and final member of the team to advance to the quarterfinals. Johnny Carey played collegiately at Washington State University, last week he finished T3 at the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur.
Quarterfinal match number four will feature Tyler Fitchett of Yakima, Wash. versus Paul Mitzel of Quincy, Wash. Fitchett just finished his college golf career at Saint Martin’s University. Mitzel played his college golf at Washington State University, he finished in second place last week at the Washington Men’s Mid-Amateur.
Tomorrow’s rounds will be conducted on the Gold Mountain Cascade Course tomorrow. The quarterfinals will begin at 7:00am, followed by the semifinals in the afternoon.
The PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship is one of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
