Quail Ridge Golf Course

Local flavor, local favorite

Situated between the Elkhorn and Wallowa mountain ranges in rural Baker City, Ore., Quail Ridge Golf Course offers fun yet challenging play for all ages and skill levels. Covered in Kentucky Blue and Rye Bent Fescue grasses, this scenic course is an oasis for eastern Oregon golf opportunity.

Constructed over high prairie sagebrush, this city-owned course opened with nine holes in 1936. In 1999, award-winning course architect Bill Robinson designed a second nine holes, with the expansion funded by the citizens of Baker City. Quail Ridge Golf Management oversees the operation of the course, as well as other outdoor recreation and tourism venues in Baker County, including Anthony Lakes ski area.

“There is a real cross-over of skiers and golfers here,” said Nic Carman, clubhouse manager since 2021. “Until ski season closes, we have people who are on the slopes in the morning and play golf in the afternoon.”

Nic Carman has been the clubhouse manager since 2021. He’ll also pour the beverages for those making the turn.

Carman talked about the course’s spring and summer programs, including multiple youth programs, hosting of the high school golf team, and numerous tournaments. Men’s, women’s, and couples’ leagues fill out the calendar.

Locals love their golf course here and many participate in programs that enable local youth to explore the lifelong sport of golf. Programs such as the “5th & 6th Grade Monday” and “Golf for the Health of It” engage youth and community members alike.

Quail Ridge invites visitors from near and far to golf and explore the vibrant and historic local communities in Baker County. Anyone who shows proof of overnight stay in Baker County receives 50 percent off green fees, making this a great stop-over or destination for golfers.

The narrow fairway layout offers abundant risks for out-of-bounds experiences. The seventh hole, a par-3, sees multiple holes-in-one every year, according to Carman. The longer back nine holes stretch a player’s patience if the wind is against you.

Set against a relaxing and picturesque background, it’s a favorite golf experience.

Quail Ridge Golf Course is located less than two hours northwest of Boise. It is open every day between March and October. The clubhouse offers a full-service bar, seasonal restaurant, a grab-n-go bar, event facilities, rental clubs, and accessories.
