Round One Recap: PNGA Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships
Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash. hosted the first round of the 51st Pacific Northwest Golf Association Senior Men’s Amateur Championship and 6th Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship today. The 54-hole event concludes on Thursday, June 11th.
In the first round of the Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Paul Houvener of Mill Creek,Wash. posted an impressive six-under-par-66. He birdied the final four holes in round one, and had a total of nine birdies on the day. He takes a three-stroke lead into round two.
John Gallacher or Burnaby BC and two-time champion Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash. are in second place, three strokes behind Houvener after first-round scores of three-under-par 69.
2005 champion Kent Brown of Colville, Wash., Lance Lundy of Pemberton, BC, and John Bracken of Seattle, Wash. are four off of Houvener’s pace at two-under-par 70 and tied for fourth place.
In the Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Ron Garland of Bozeman, Mont. Put together a round of three-under-par 69 that included six birdies.
In second place is 2011 champion Gay Davis, who is two strokes behind after an up-and-down first round of one-under-par 71.
Rick Weihe of Bellingham, Wash. scrambled to even-par 72 after posting four bogeys and four birdies. He is alone in third place.
Round two of the 2015 PNGA Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships gets underway tomorrow, June 10th at 7:30 a.m.
