Shelly Stouffer goes wire-to-wire at PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur; Penny Gibbons wins Super Senior title

Shelly Stouffer

Squamish, B.C. – Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay, BC shot rounds of 72-73-70 to win the 38th Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, while Penny Gibbons of Vancouver, Wash. shot rounds of 82-77-85 to win the 13th Pacific Northwest Super Senior Women’s Amateur. Both championships were held this week, September 2-4, at Squamish Valley Golf Club in Squamish, B.C.

This year marked the first time Squamish Valley hosted either championship. Both were held over three 18-hole rounds of stroke play.

Entering the day with a sizeable lead after parring all but one hole yesterday, Stouffer did plenty to maintain it. She birdied her third hole, and while two bogeys came on holes 8 and 10, she notched three more birdies in her last five holes to finish at 1-under par. Stouffer’s 2-under round of 70 was the lowest of the senior championship, and the only round under par.

The result marks Stouffer’s third PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur title, after she won in 2022 and 2023. She also won the previous six BC Women’s Senior Amateur titles and is a member of the PNGA Hall of Fame.

Sandra Turbide of Maple Ridge, BC finished as runner-up, nine shots back of Stouffer at 10-over.

Penny Gibbons

In the Super Senior, Gibbons entered the day tied with PNGA Hall-of-Famer Marcia Fisher of Molalla, Ore. Gibbons recorded a birdie on the 12th hole, which wound up being the difference as she narrowly finished at 28-over par, one shot ahead of Fisher.

Gibbons’ second-round 77 was the lowest of the super senior championship. Her win completes a successful title defense having won the 2024 title.

These championships are two of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and senior conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
