Turbide Takes 10th Women’s Mid-Amateur

Port Ludlow, Wash. (July 15, 2011) – In the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship Match, Sandra Turbide of Maple Ridge, B.C. successfully defended her title in the championship by defeating 2005 and 2007 Women’s Mid-Am Champion Kareen Markle of Meridian, Idaho 2 and 1. Turbide won the event last year, when it was held at Clarkston (Wash.) Country Club.

Turbide birdied the first hole to quickly go 1-up, and started to really put the pressure on by building a 3-up lead through seven holes. Markle fought her way back into the match over the next seven holes to square the match through 14. Turbide quickly regained the lead on the 15th and a wayward shot by Markle into the lateral hazard on 16 would put Turbide dormie heading to the 17th tee. And then with a routine par on the downhill par-3, Turbide captured her second consecutive PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
