Karns jumps out to early lead at PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur
McCall, Idaho – The 47th Pacific Northwest Men’s Master-40 Amateur Championship is taking place this week at Jug Mountain Ranch in McCall, Idaho. After the conclusion of today’s opening round of stroke play qualifying, Brad Karns of Vancouver, Wash. holds a two shot lead over the 57 player field.

His opening round of 3-under par 69 gives Karns an early advantage on the chase for stroke play medalist honors. His round today included six birdies against just three bogeys. He leads by two shots over Colin Guhlke of Davenport, Wash. and John Warner of Star, Idaho.
Karns, who is seeking his first PNGA title, is no stranger to success in this championship having finished as runner-up in 2019.
Defending champion Jesse Hibler of Meridian, Idaho opened his title defense with 1-over 73, he currently sits in seventh place.
The championship begins with 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying on August 29-30 to determine the 32 players that will advance to single elimination match play. All matches will be contested over 18 holes and played at scratch, with the final match being held Friday, September 2.
This year’s championship is being hosted this week at Jug Mountain Ranch in McCall, Idaho and is conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA). The field consists of the top male amateur golfers in the Pacific Northwest over the age of 40.
The Pacific Northwest Men’s Master-40 Amateur is one of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
