49th PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur is underway from Bar Run
Roseburg, Ore. – The 49th PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur Championship is taking place this week, August 26-30 at Bar Run Golf & RV Resort in Roseburg, Ore.
The championship begins with the field of players playing 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying on August 26-27, followed by a cut to the low 32 players who will advance to single-elimination match play.
The rounds of 32 and 16 will be held on Wednesday, August 28; followed by quarterfinals and semifinals on Thursday; with the championship match on Friday, August 30. Each match will be contested over 18 holes.

In last year’s championship, Bjorn Bjorke of Port Orchard, Wash. won his first PNGA title with a 4 & 2 win in the championship match over Ben Garrett of Seattle, Wash.
Notable players to watch in this year’s field include:
- Dana Christianson (Tacoma, Wash.) – 2016 PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur champion.
- Nate Hair (Spokane Valley, Wash.) – 2014 PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur champion.
- JD McDonald (Kennewick, Wash.) – Won the 2020 Washington Super Senior Men’s
To be eligible, contestants must be 40 years of age or older by August 26, 2024. Competitors must have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index or Golf Canada Handicap Factor not exceeding 8.4 at the time of entry, and must be a member in good standing of a PNGA Member Association.
The Pacific Northwest Men’s Master-40 Amateur is one of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
