Yakima, Wash. – Wyatt Brook of Heffley Creek, B.C. shot a 5-under par 67 during the second round of the PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur to maintain the lead at 13-under par, while Jessica Mangrobang of Portland, Ore. shot a 2-under par 70 to take the lead of the PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur at a 4-under total.
Both championships are being held this week, August 26-28, at Apple Tree Resort in Yakima, Wash.

With the first two 18-hole rounds complete, one more will follow for each championship. If necessary, a hole-by-hole playoff will determine the champion following the final rounds.

While Brook’s round of 67 wasn’t quite his opening-day 63, it still did not include a single bogey or worse. The Canadian birdied the first hole of his second round and eagled the third. Tacking on two more birdies on holes 9 and 17, he now is 14-under par.
Brook won the 2024 BC Mid-Amateur and placed third in the same championship this year. He is looking for his first PNGA title.
Like yesterday, Taylor Lansford of Post Falls, Idaho, occupies the second spot. And also, like yesterday, Lansford can credit a stellar second nine holes for it. He went even through his first nine and found birdies on holes 10 and 12 before carding three more straight to end his round and equal the 67 of Brook.
Still three back of Brook at 11-under, Lansford is also in search of his first PNGA title. Originally from Tulsa, Okla., he is a graduate of Missouri Southern State University.
One shot behind Lansford in third is Trevor Rismon (Issaquah, Wash.), at 10-under.
In the women’s championship, both Mangrobang and round one leader Aram Choi (Surrey, BC) avoided serious trouble. On Mangrobang’s card, a birdie on the second hole was followed by a bogey on the fourth. She re-entered red figures with another birdie on hole 12, taking the lead from Choi in the process. She followed that with another on the 18th, giving her the 4-under par score that has her atop the leaderboard.
As for Choi, she found herself 2-over par for her round by the time she had finished her 11th hole, but birdies on holes 12 and 18 allowed her to escape the day even and maintain a 3-under score for the championship.
Choi is three strokes ahead of Kendall Cox (Renton, Wash), who sits solo third.
Mangrobang, a graduate of Gonzaga University, is in search of her first PNGA title. She qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur in each of the previous two years.
Choi is also after her first PNGA win. She placed third in the 2024 PNGA Women’s Mid-Am. A former professional who regained amateur status, Choi also won the 2024 BC Women’s Mid-Amateur.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Mangrobang, Choi and Cox will tee off at 8:00 a.m. Brook, Lansford and Rismon will follow later at 11:30.
These championships are two of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and senior conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
