Despite two double-bogeys and two bogeys, Folsom still fought her way to an even-par round by countering with six birdies during her opening round. She holds a one-shot lead in the Senior Women’s over Sandra Turbide of Maple Ridge, B.C. and two shots over Karen Darrington of Boise, Idaho.
Folsom was named last year’s Washington Golf Senior Women’s Player of the Year. Earlier this year, Turbide won the Washington Senior Women’s Amateur.
In the Super Senior Women’s, Laschuk’s four-over par 77 is good for a one-shot lead over Penny Jacks of Lewiston, Idaho, and three shots over two-time defending champion Holly Horwood of Vancouver, B.C.
To be eligible, competitors in the Senior Women’s Amateur must be 50 years of age or older by the first day of competition, while Super Senior competitors must be 65 years of age or older.
