Halfway to History

After this morning’s round on the Bandon Dunes course, Cameron Peck has a 3-up lead over Hans Reimers in the 112th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship, being held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

Peck is continuing his hot streak, charging his way through the bracket this week. He blitzed the Bandon Dunes course yesterday in the Quarterfinals, when he made the turn at 6-under before closing out his match at 6 and 5 against Kyle Bowser.

He likes links golf. And he likes fescue grasses. And he likes match play. Last month he won the Washington State Amateur, which was held on the links and fescue grasses at Chambers Bay, and in 2008 he won the U.S. Junior Amateur, which is match play, and which put his name on the amateur golf scene.

Reimers, however, isn’t going to roll over. In yesterday’s Semifinal match against Justin Keiley, Reimers was down by as much as three holes, and never led the match until he won the 18th, and last, hole. And last month he came back in the final round to win the Oregon Open.

Reimers and Peck tee up the afternoon round at 12:30 today on the resort’s Bandon Trails course.

The sun is out, the sky is blue, the wind is soft from the north.
