Hogben wins 59th PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur; Shaw wins 14th Super Senior
Delta, B.C. – Paul Hogben of Seattle, Wash., posted consistent rounds of 72-72-72 to claim victory in the 59th Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship. Meanwhile, Jim Shaw of Sooke, B.C., captured the 14th Super Senior Men’s Amateur title with rounds of 78-76-69.
Both championships took place this week, from September 10-12, at Beach Grove Golf Club in Delta, B.C.

Hogben entered the final round one shot behind in the Senior Men’s Amateur and was part of the final group. He started steadily in today’s final round, recording one birdie and one bogey on the front nine. Hogben and third-round leader Mike Kennedy from North Vancouver, B.C. were tied as they made the turn, but Hogben edged ahead by finishing with a 1-over 37 on the back nine. Kennedy finished with a 5-over 41.
This victory marks Hogben’s first PNGA title. Mike Kennedy and Steven Savage of Surrey, B.C., tied for second, finishing four shots behind.
In the Super Senior Men’s Amateur, Shaw began the day six shots off the lead but surged to the top with a remarkable 2-under 69. His score was the only under-par round of the entire championship.
This also marks Shaw’s first PNGA title. Defending champion Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Michael Jonson of Sammamish, Wash., tied for second place.
The PNGA Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships are two of 11 major regional amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
