Roberts holds steady to win PNGA Women’s Amateur title

Jazy Roberts of Australia defeated Anika Varma of Rocklin, Calif. 2&1 over the 36-hole final match to secure the 123rd PNGA Women’s Amateur title. The championship was held at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.
The championship began with 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying on July 7 and 8, followed by 18-hole single elimination match play on July 9 and 10, and culminated today with the 36-hole final match.

Throughout the morning’s first 18 holes, Varma had the edge and opened a 3-up lead over the opening eight. Roberts stayed close behind, though, winning hole Nos. 9, 14 and 18 to eventually card a round of 70. Varma finished the morning with a 69 to enter the afternoon 1-up.
Roberts continued her scoring pace throughout the latter half of the match, winning five of the first 10 holes to gain a 2-up advantage over Varma. With both players tying the next seven holes, Roberts’ advantage was enough for the Australian to clinch the 2&1 triumph.
Roberts’ title marks the second consecutive victory for Australia in the championship, one year after Justice Bosio’s 2024 win.

This year marks the second time the PNGA Women’s Amateur was designated as an official USGA exemption event, meaning Roberts’ win clinches a berth in the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes.
