Slama and Swann advance to Round of 32 at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Ellie Slama of Salem, Ore. and Kennedy Swann of McKenzie Bridge, Ore. both advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, being held this week at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.

Slama, who was named the 2019 PNGA Women’s Player of the Year, shot qualifying rounds of 73-74 and earned the No. 29 seed in match play. She defeated No. 36 seed Aneka Seumanutafa of Emmitsburg, Md. in today’s round of 64 by a score of 3 and 1.

Slama will face No. 4  seed Phoebe Brinker of Wilmington, Del. in tomorrow’s Round of 32, teeing off at 4:40am PDT.

This is the first appearance in the championship for Swann, who shot qualifying rounds of 75-71 to earn the No. 23 seed in match play. She defeated No. 42 seed Aline Krauter of Germany by a score of 2 and 1 in today’s round of 64 to advance.

Swann will face No. 55 seed Bohyun Park of the Republic of Korea in tomorrow’s Round of 32, teeing off at 5:50am PDT.
