Past champions Hanson and Houvener to meet in final match at Pacific Northwest Master-40 Amateur

A couple of past champions will meet in Friday’s final match to determine the champion of the 42nd Pacific Northwest Master-40 Amateur Championship, being held this week at Salish Cliffs Golf Club in Shelton, Wash.

No. 1 seed Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash. will square off against No. 6 seed Paul Houvener of Mill Creek, Wash. in an 18-hole match, with the players teeing off the first hole at 7:30 a.m.

Hanson is looking for his fourth title in this championship, having won in 2007, 2010 and 2015. Houvener won the championship in 2003.

Both players made it through two matches today, the quarterfinals in the morning and the semifinals this afternoon.

Hanson handled his two matches easily, defeating Kevin Burnett of Seattle 6 and 5 in the quarterfinals, and then Craig Larson of Tacoma 3 and 2 in the semifinals.

Houvener defeated Ryan Welborn of Tacoma 2 and 1 in this morning’s quarterfinals, but struggled in the semifinals this afternoon against Greg Sanders of Anchorage, Alaska. Sanders was 1-up on Houvener playing the 18th hole, but conceded the match to Houvener when a scheduling conflict would prevent him from competing in tomorrow’s final match if he would win the semifinal match.
