Foushee storms back to win PNGA Men’s Mid-Amatur; Swanson captures Women’s Mid-Am

Vancouver, Wash. – Zach Foushee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) came from six shots back in the final round to win the 41st PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur, with rounds of 69-73-68. It is Foushee’s first PNGA title. In the 24th PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur, Hannah Swanson (Portland) shot rounds of 76-69-76 (+5) to win her first PNGA title as well.
Both championships were contested over 54 holes of stroke play, and were held concurrently this week at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash.
This marks the first time Royal Oaks has hosted a PNGA Mid-Amateur, and the first time since the 2003 Men’s Amateur it has hosted any PNGA championship.

In the Men’s Mid-Amateur, Foushee began today’s final round six shots back of leader Paul Mitzel (Quincy, Wash.). Playing in the second-to-last group, Foushee bogeyed the third hole but then reeled off four birdies on the front nine, and with Mitzel shooting 3-over the front side, Foushee had caught him, and a birdie on the short par-4 10th put him in the lead for good.
Mitzel finished tied for second with Wyatt Brook (Heffley Creek, B.C.), three shots back of Foushee. Brook was attempting to defend his title, having won this championship last year. Earlier this season, he also won the BC Men’s Mid-Amateur title.
Foushee is no stranger to the winner’s circle, having won the Oregon Amateur three times. In September, he will compete in the U.S. Men’s Mid-Amateur, his first time qualifying for that national championship. He had turned professional after college, and regained his amateur status in 2020. Earlier this year he was selected for Team OGA to compete in the PNGA Lamey Cup.
In the Women’s Mid-Amateur, Swanson’s 3-under 69 in yesterday’s second round had put her at the top of the leaderboard heading into today’s final round. Teeing off in the last group of the day, she played steadily in today’s 90-degree heat, holding the lead and challenging other players to catch her, but they could not. The greens at Royal Oaks were rolling 13.6 on the Stimpmeter, and her 4-over 76 was enough to clinch the title.
Finishing second, three shots back of Swanson, was Jessica Mangrobang (Portland), who was attempting to defend her title, having won this championship last year.
It has been a good season for Swanson, whose home course is Tualatin Country Club, where she is the 2026 women’s club champion. Earlier this year, she was selected for Team OGA at the PNGA Lamey Cup. She won the 2026 OGA Tournament of Champions, finishing 10 shots clear of the field. Then she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, which will be held next week at Montclair Golf Club in New Jersey. She had also qualified for that national championship last year.
Swanson had played college golf at both Oregon State University and Portland State University.
Royal Oaks has become well-known across the Northwest through the Royal Oaks Invitational, which has been held yearly in junior, senior and amateur divisions since 1957. It’s also been the site of other high-level events such as the Oregon Amateur Championship, Northwest Open Invitational, and PNWPGA Senior Section Championship. The Hudson Cup and USGA Qualifiers have also been held at Royal Oaks.
Prior to 2003, Royal Oaks had also hosted the PNGA Men’s Amateur in 1994, when then-18-year-old Tiger Woods claimed victory. It was Woods’ first significant title as an adult.
These championships are two of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and senior conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
