Team OGA Takes Lead After Day One at PNGA Cup

At the 14th PNGA Cup, being held this week at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore., Team OGA took an early lead after the morning Four-Ball matches, with four points, then followed it up with 5 points in the afternoon Foursome matches. They hold a 1.5-point lead going into tomorrow’s Singles matches.

After Team OGA are Team WSGA with 7.5 points, Team BC Golf with 4.5 points and Team IGA with 3 points.

The Oregon Golf Association will be attempting to defend its title, having won the event last year. The OGA has won this championship seven times.

In tomorrow’s Singles matches, all 48 players – 12 from each team – will be competing, with 24 points on the line, which will have a significant impact on the final outcome of this year’s PNGA Cup.

The PNGA Cup was created in 2006 by past PNGA President Dr. Jack Lamey as a way of continuing the friendship and partnership of the region’s allied associations under the PNGA umbrella – British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association.

The annual Ryder Cup-style competition is held on a rotating basis throughout the region, with this year’s event being held in Oregon and hosted by the Oregon Golf Association.

Designed by Robert Cupp and opened in 1995, Crosswater Club is recognized by Golf Digest as one of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses.” The course in Central Oregon has hosted the PGA Professional National Championship four times, a PGA TOUR Champions major four times, both the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division I National Championship, and the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions twice.
