Klein and Alkins lead in PNGA Women’s Senior Team; Dick and O’Donnell lead Super Seniors

Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam, Wash. and Yasue Alkins of Steilacoom, Wash. grabbed a slim one-shot lead after the first round of the 35th Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior Team Championship; while Carol Dick of Lakewood, Wash. and Mary O’Donnell of Bellevue, Wash. lead the 2nd Women’s Super Senior Team Championship.

Round of both Championships took place on the Gold Mountain Cascade Course.

Both championships are being held concurrently at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., and are being conducted by the PNGA.

Klein and Alkins combined for a 3-under par 69 in the Four-Ball format, good for a one-shot lead over Ginny Burkey and Leilani Norman, both of Eugene, Ore. Just two shots back of the leaders is the team of Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. and Kathryn McGarvey of North Vancouver, B.C.

Burkey is gunning for her seventh title in this championship, although this is the first year she has teamed with Norman, who was the 2015 PNGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year.

Little, who was inducted into the PNGA Hall of Fame earlier this year, and McGarvey won this championship last year, and have put themselves into contention going into tomorrow’s second round, which will be played in the Chapman format.
