Anybody’s game after first round of qualifying at PNGA Master-40
In today’s first round of qualifying at the 45th Pacific Northwest Master-40, the weather conditions were benign at Salishan Golf Links, but low scores were still difficult to come by, as only one player in the full field of 72 players broke par on the par-71 layout. Clare Langford of Bend, Ore. fired a 1-under par 70 at the Peter Jacobsen-designed layout on the mid-Oregon Coast.

With the course playing longer than normal with last week’s rains softening the fairways, and the greens rolling firm and fast, and hazards in play on nearly every hole, the region’s finest male amateur players over the age of 40 had their hands full.
The competitors will tee it up again tomorrow in the second round of qualifying, with the low 32 scores making the cut into the championship’s match-play bracket.
