Hanson and Larson Take Lead After Second Round at PNGA Men’s Senior Team; Remingtons Lead Super Senior
The team of Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash. and Craig Larson of Tacoma combined for a 4-under par 68 in the second round to push their way to the top of the leaderboard at the 34th Pacific Northwest Men’s Senior Team Championship. In the Men’s Super Senior Team Championship, brothers Jeff Remington of Edmonds, Wash. and Mick Remington of Sammamish, Wash. have built a three-shot lead heading into the final round.
Both championships are being held this week at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., and are being conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).
Hanson and Larson started the day one shot behind the team of Todd Tibke of Snohomish, Wash. and Ken Jenson of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., but closed today with birdies on holes 17 and 18 to leap over Tibke and Jenson and finish with a 2-shot lead.
Past champions Larry Gilhuly and Jim McNelis (2010), both of Gig Harbor, Wash., are in third place, four shots back of Hanson and Larson; and 2014 champions John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C. and Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. are tied for fourth, five shots back.
The Remingtons overtook first round leaders Charlie Wozow and Toat Brandvold, both of Snohomish, by shooting a second consecutive below-par round, a 2-under par 70.
Today’s second round was conducted in the Chapman format on Gold Mountain’s Olympic course. The third round of the 54-hole championship will be in the Four-Ball format and will also be held on the Olympic course.
Tomorrow’s final round will be a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
