Match Play Brackets Set at PNGA Junior Amateur Championships

Corvallis, Ore. – Two rounds of stroke play qualifying are complete, and the match play brackets are set for the 69th Pacific Northwest Junior Boys’ and 68th Junior Girls’ Amateur Championships, taking place this week, August 12-16, at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.

Jack Kendrick from Vancouver, Wash., earned stroke play medalist honors and clinched the No. 1 seed in the Junior Boys’ bracket after firing rounds of 66-67 to finish at 9-under par, two shots clear of second-place finishers James Bordeaux from University Place, Wash., and Drew Woolworth from Lake Oswego, Ore.

Kendrick will be a freshman on the Western Washington University men’s golf team this fall. He made it to the semifinal round in last year’s championship, falling to eventual champion Teigen Brill.

Other notable players to advance to match play in the Junior Boys’ Amateur include:

  • 4 seed Lucas Vanderlip (Gold Beach, Ore.) – Won the 2024 Oregon Junior Stroke Play.
  • 8 seed Theodore Snyder (Gig Harbor, Wash.) – Won the 2024 WJGA State Championship.
  • 10 seed Connor Holden (Canby, Ore.) – Won the 2024 Southern Oregon Junior Championship.
  • 15 seed Teigen Brill (Spokane, Wash.) – Won the 2023 PNGA Junior Boys’ Amateur Championship.
Amy Seung Hyun Lee

In the Junior Girls’ Amateur, Amy Seung Hyun Lee from Langley, B.C., clinched stroke play medalist honors and the No. 1 seed in the Junior Girls’ bracket after finishing at 4-under par with rounds of 68-70. She finished the stroke play portion one shot ahead of second-place finishers Alyssa Rigby from Vancouver, Wash., and Clara Ding from White Rock, B.C.

Earlier this summer, Lee won the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Other notable players to advance to match play in the Junior Girls’ Amateur include:

  • 4 seed Yeeun Kwon (Vancouver, B.C.) – Won the 2023 PNGA Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship.
  • 14 seed Kate Lee (Lake Oswego, Ore.) – Won the 2024 OSAA 6A High School State Championship.

Both championships began with 36 holes of stroke play qualifying (August 12-13) to determine seeding for the match play portion of the championships. For the Boys’ championship, 32 players advanced to match play, and for the Girls’, 16 players advanced.

All matches will be contested over 18 holes in a single-elimination format, with the exception of the two final matches, which will both be played over 36 holes on Friday, August 16.
