Quarterfinal matchups set at PNGA Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships
Bellingham, Wash. – The quarterfinal matchups are set at the 68th PNGA Junior Boys’ and 67th Junior Girls’ Amateur championships, taking place this week at North Bellingham Golf Course in Bellingham, Wash.
Matches in the Boys’ rounds of 32 and 16, and matches in the Girls’ round of 16 were contested today as the region’s top junior players battled it out on the first day of match play.

The No. 1 seed in the Boys’ championship, Conrad Chisman of Stanwood, Wash., survived a tough test in both of his matches today. He defeated the No. 32 seed, Calvin Cakarnis of Issaquah, Wash., in 19 holes in this morning’s round of 32. In the afternoon, he overcame the No. 16 seed, Ryder Odem of Kirkland, Wash., in 22 holes to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
Chisman, a rising senior at Stanwood High School, has verbally committed to playing college golf at Seattle University after completing high school. He will face off against the No. 25 seed, Teigen Brill of Spokane, Wash., in tomorrow’s quarterfinal round.

In the Junior Girls’ championship, the No. 1 seed, Chelsea Truong of Victoria, B.C., defeated Dara Miao of White Rock, B.C., in the Round of 16 by a score of 6 & 5. Truong secured victory by winning three of her first four holes and maintaining her lead throughout the match. She closed out the match after just 13 holes.
Earlier this summer, Truong clinched the 2023 B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship. As a rising high school senior, she has verbally committed to playing college golf at the University of New Mexico.
Junior Girls’ Quarterfinal matchups

Both championships began with 36-holes of stroke play qualifying (August 14-15) to determine seeding for the match play portion of the championships. For the Boys’ championship, 32 players advanced to match play; and for the Girls’, 16 players advanced.
All matches will be contested over 18-holes in a single-elimination format, with the exception of the two final matches, which will both be played over 36-holes on Friday, August 18th.
To be eligible for the PNGA Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships, contestants must have not reached their 19th birthday by midnight of August 18, 2023, and must have a Handicap Index or Factor not exceeding 8.4 for Boys’ or 12.4 for Girls’.
These championships are two of 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors and senior conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
