Championship Links:
Varma, the No. 15 seed in the match play bracket, is a rising senior on the University of Oregon women’s golf team.
Roberts, the No. 5 seed, is a member of the Australian National Team, on which she is a teammate of Justice Bosio, who won the PNGA Women’s Amateur last year. Roberts has already had quite a summer – two weeks ago she finished runner-up at the North & South Women’s Amateur, one of the five championships of the Women’s Elite Amateur Golf Series; and last month she made the quarterfinals of the R&A Women’s Amateur held at Nairn Golf Club in Scotland. She is currently ranked No. 92 in the world, according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches were contested this morning and afternoon.
Varma faced Berkley Ledesma of University Place, Wash. in the quarterfinals, with Varma coming out on top, 4 and 3. Roberts easily handled Reagan Southerland of Atlanta, Ga. in her quarterfinal match, 7 and 6.

In the afternoon semifinals, Varma won the first five holes against her University of Oregon teammate Darae Chung. Varma never looked back, was 6-up after nine holes, and cruised to a 5 and 4 win to earn her spot in the final match.
In Roberts’ semifinal match, she defeated Inez Ng, 5 and 3. Roberts held a slim 2-up lead after nine holes, but then won holes 13, 14 and 15 to close out the match. Ng, a rising senior at the University of North Carolina, had gone deep into the bracket despite being the No. 25 seed.
The PNGA Women’s Amateur is considered a USGA Exemption Event, with this year’s champion earning an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur, which will be held August 4-10 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. This opportunity has led to an exceptionally strong field in this year’s PNGA Women’s Amateur.
The PNGA Women’s Amateur was previously held at Wine Valley Golf Club in 2013, when Jennifer Ha of Alberta, Canada, won the title. Wine Valley has also hosted the PNGA Men’s Amateur three times, in 2024, 2016, and 2012.
