And speaking of the British Open…
Greg Hope of Seaside, Ore. brought a group of players to Scotland to play several British Open courses. They played Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool, Royal St. Georges and Royal Lytham & St Annes. At Royal Lytham, the club was hosting another club for dinner and one of the directors of Royal Lytham came out and asked if they’d like their photo taken with the Claret Jug (the British Open trophy). They jumped at the chance.
The group was from Oregon Golf Club in Portland, and left to right are Greg Hope, Mitch Rask, Chris Rask, Paul Hundhammer, Tyler Breault, Mike Lahti, Paul Scott, Karl Hertig, Bill Breault, Tom Holterhoff and John Hein.
Greg’s group had nine days of sunshine and had shorts on most every day. After dropping this group off in London, he flew over to Dublin and picked up a group from Astoria Golf & Country Club (Greg’s home club), led by PGA head pro John Kawasoe and went up to Northern Ireland and played Royal Portrush (site of the 2019 British Open) and another nine days of sunshine!
